Journey of Marketing your Book

My first step was to write a book. I did that in April, now I need to get it published.

I think that the First Step to the Journey of Marketing your Book is to write a book. It is not necessary that you have a good writing style, but you have to have a good idea and be ready to explain it to people. It is also very important to write your book in a way that is easy to understand. Many authors believe that marketing is an afterthought in their publishing journey, but it’s actually one of the most important steps.

It’s all about the process, not just the books and the services that you offer. Marketing yourself as a writer is a process that needs to be considered and planned. It is the first step to the journey of marketing your Book, and it is a journey!

Effective marketing can be essential to the success of your book and should start as soon as you have an idea for one.

The First Step and Beyond….

Why Amazon Dominates (and How to Win There)

The lion’s share of book sales—especially for self-published authors—happens on Amazon. While sites like Flipkart exist, and a handful of independent bookstores can help regional authors, Amazon is where readers (and their credit cards) hang out. That means the heart of your marketing strategy should be building a compelling Amazon presence and learning how to thrive within its ecosystem.

Making Social Media Work (for Visibility, Not Direct Sales)

Social media is a tool for brand-building, not for direct book sales.

Author Platform: Website & Email List

While it doesn’t sell books directly, a website is a home base for your brand and enables you to collect email addresses. Use email list for new release announcements, exclusive content, and direct sales launches.

Goodreads—Still Useful (But Not Primary)

While Goodreads lacks the sales punch of Amazon, it remains a place to connect with voracious readers, collect reviews, and participate in giveaways. Pretend you’re a fan first—rate books you love, join discussions, and avoid spammy self-promotion.

The Bottom Line, is if you want your book to sell—not just be seen—direct your marketing firepower toward a sales-optimized Amazon page and running Amazon ads. Build an email list early, use social media for visibility and to connect, and leverage new platforms as appropriate. Social media, including Twitter, is now mostly “top of funnel”—they boost awareness but don’t drive significant sales compared to Amazon discovery and ads.

Marketing is an ongoing journey. The right mix: Amazon ecosystem mastery, authentic content, and consistent reader engagement—and you set the stage to not just publish book, but building a long-term writing career.
