Different Types of Books

Books have seen evolution from the ancient Egyptian papyrus scrolls to codex to the handwritten books on parchment to printing of books and finally to the eBooks and audiobooks. According to the readers’ resources and availability, they can choose whichever format they like to read. Some of the most popular formats of books are:

  • Hardcover: The hardbound books have sewn spines and to protect the book from dust, it also comes with a dust jacket. The cover is strong and sturdy and is made of thick cardboard. The dust jacket protects the cover and makes it possible for the book to last for a long time. The typical size used for hardcover books is 6×9 inches, although it can vary according to the writer and the publisher. Some of the nonfiction books, first edition fiction or poetry books are published in hardcover. Hardcover books
  • Paperback: Paperback books have a soft cover when compared with hardbound books. Usually, these kinds of books are preferred and printed the most. Paperback books are also economically cheaper than hardcover books and are hence accessible to most people. Crime, Drama, Romance and Horror books usually find themselves typed within a paperback book.
  • eBook: Since eBooks do not have any physical production cost and the cost to store the books, it can be inferred that eBooks are generally less expensive than other book formats. With the pandemic, eBook readers also grew in number wherein no physical contact to buy or deliver the books was present. Readers who need instant gratification and do not wish to wait for delivery or availability of the book find eBooks really helpful. eBook
