How to Write a Book – Non Fiction

Writing a book is as honorable a task as building an empire of your own. Yet, it’s common among great minds to get lost while thinking of writing a book. To get started, here are some simple ways to get yourself organized and write a miraculous piece of literature.

Read

If you are planning to write a book of non-fiction genre, it is highly advisable that you read at least two non-fiction books, which can give you an idea of how a non-fiction book is written. This gives you a clearer picture of a genre and also boosts your interest in the writing process.

Buy a Notebook and a File

Before you begin writing, the first thing you must do is buy a notebook. Buying the notebook will help you keep all the information you want to use in an organised way. The file you buy will help you store all the relevant documents, such as manuscripts and paper cuttings.

Choose a Subject

A nonfiction book needs to be on a particular topic, and you must first choose the topic you want to write about. Once you choose the topic that interests you, you are on your way to writing a great piece of non-fiction.

Make a List

You need to jot down the sources from which you can get all the information for your book. Unlike fiction, a non-fiction book is based on facts and information written in a clear manner. You need to make a list of all the sources from which you can get the relevant information on the subject you are writing about.

Collection and Filing

Start gathering information from the sources and writing it down in the notebook. Store all the relevant documents in the file for reference.

Create an Outline

Once you are done collecting the reports, facts, and documents, arrange them and use all the information available to you to make an outline of the piece you are about to write. You need to determine the format in which you are going to present your facts. It may be in the form of a story, which is common in biographical works, or in small pieces of facts and information joined together to create an academic sample presented in chapters.

Division

Once you are done with the outline, make a division of chapters. To divide the story outline into chapters, all you need to do is write the outline in a detailed form and use brackets to denote the division of chapters. The opening bracket indicates the start of the chapter, and the closing bracket indicates the end. Now use them to divide your story into chapters. You can also write down the outline of chapters beforehand so that it becomes easier for you to write.

Rough Draft

After you are done arranging all the information and creating an outline of the book and its chapters, it’s time to write the rough draft. Adhere to your notebook and the chapter outlines to get all facts into the book without any errors.

Final Draft

After you have finished writing the rough draft, read it to an expert on the subject or to people with knowledge of the subject. If the subject is relatively new, read it to people with interest bordering on the subject. Take their advice into account and edit your rough draught if necessary. Once you are done, you can begin with the final draft.

Publish

After you have written the book, all you have to do is make a list of publishing houses along with their addresses and contact details and send them a copy of your final draft. It may take some time, but soon you will have a nonfiction book to your credit.

Thus, here you have all that you need to begin your book writing journey with. For the purpose of writing a non-fiction book, the key is to find the right balance between research and creativity. Creativity is important for any field, but research is essential to understanding the world around us. Now, get yourself ready to begin the journey, and soon you will have a book with your name on it.
