Herbs are used in medicine since antiquity. RIGVEDA, one of the oldest veda had quoted the use of plants in medicine. Much of the medicinal plants are documented in the age old medical sciences like Ayurveda and Chinese system of medicine. Nearly five hundred plants of vegetable origin are documented in CHARAK SAMHITA and SHUSHRUT SAMHITA.

Main intention of this book is to get a compiled knowledge about the Bael fruit and its natural benefits and curative properties. The principal aim of this book is two fold: (1). To provide detailed information on the medicinal plant, (2) to preserve the traditional knowledge of herbal healers on medicinal plants use. This book describes the existence of plants, history and scope of fruit, mythological stories about Bael fruit, names in different languages, varieties of this fruit, propagation, cultivation, usage, herbal value, natural benefits and curative properties of the fruit.

We all know that herbal medicine has been used throughout history and within every culture to prevent and treat disease. In any individual culture, the materials used were those that were available within the geographical location and addressed local health concerns. Medicinal plants are an important part of our natural wealth. They serve as important therapeutic agents as well as valuable raw materials for manufacturing numerous traditional and modern medicines.

In many developing countries, traditional medicine is still the mainstay of health care and most of the drugs and cures comes from natural sources, such as plants.

As this is the first edition of this book there may be some lacunae. Valuable suggestions from the readers will be obliged.
