Road Safety is of prime importance as road accidents have become the biggest cause of deaths in our country and all over the world. Road Safety means safety for all road users. The continuously changing traffic pattern & its environment requires several measures to control this menace effectively. Besides geometric improvements in the road design features, speed management is also necessary to reduce the fatal accidents. Several Developed countries like France and USA have incorporated the concept of speed regulation in their vision towards more safe traffic. Effective use of ITS & integration of Safety as LOS (Level of Service) in the Highway capacity determination is the need of the hour and it requires the utmost attention of civil engineers. Proper Widening of shoulders and improved signaling at intersections including the synchronized signaling system in urban areas will enhance the highway capacity combined with the improved safety on highway.

All the above aspects have been dealt in brief in the book and hopefully the book will be beneficial for the civil engineers in tackling the highway safety issues in a better way.
