The book examines India’s experience with poverty reduction in a period of rapid economic growth, marshalling evidence from various Studies. This book on Rural Poverty Alleviation in India: A Macro Reality, comprises six chapters on a study. The author provides conceptual clarity and discusses the multifaceted dimensions of poverty. An attempt is made to critically analyse the progress and impact of the rural poverty alleviation programme in India in general and the three major programmes emphasized in particular. The author also discusses the lessons drawn from various approaches and strategies followed through the country's five year plans. Thus, the book is significant in the sense that several dimensions of poverty estimation and its alleviation programmes are synchronised to obtain a holistic perspective on the macro- and micro-realities of poverty alleviation programmes.
