The work ‘Major Historical Trajectories in The Making of Kerala’ is an edited work on the history of Kerala that makes a humble effort to understand more about those events that played a crucial role in bringing about changes in the course of historical events that took place in Kerala from time to time. Here various aspects and changes are discussed with respect to religious, economic, political and other areas that could have an impact on society on a wide scale. The history of any place is not restricted to one field alone, but is a conglomeration of various spheres of social life which progresses through time and space with frequent human interactions. This interaction determines the course of events, and any change or specification in these independent variables causes the necessary changes in the history of any location, individual, or society as a whole. Each place has a unique nature, so it is the case with its history, and hence it is necessary to understand more about its evolution through appropriate historical studies conducted in the field. This can only be achieved by closely observing the variables that determine the course of history and the way it has changed in a unique way through the constant interactions on the part of humans who inhabit a region having its own specific potential for further progress and advances towards the future.

Umesh Mani M was a research scholar and faculty member who worked at the University of Kerala in the Department of History, spanning over four years of service. He also possesses teaching experience in other colleges as well, with an umpteen number of publications, paper presentations and MOOCs. He had shown his potential as a prolific scholar and author, dealing with those subjects related to history as well as those having contemporary relevance. He had already written two books, "Socio-Cultural Perceptions of Modern Kerala" and "Historical Perceptions of Modern Indian Society," which dealt with various aspects of Kerala and Indian history. This work, which is his third venture by the name of ‘Major Historical Trajectories in the Making of Kerala', is in fact an edited work consisting of seven articles stating various aspects of Kerala from a historical point of view by elucidating the hitherto unknown facts that need to be mentioned to understand more about the innate variables that play a crucial role in making any history, even if it is of Kerala or any other region having a historical legacy of its own.
