Contrary to common belief, Lord Ram and Devi Sita were unhappy for the major part of their married lives. In the later part of her life, Sita even regretted marrying Ram and preferred to jump down a gorge rather than accompany him to Ayodhya from the hermitage of Sage Valmiki. She expected her husband to stand by her side like a rock, instead of buckling under outside pressure and disowning her in a most cowardly fashion.
